#1: Kayaköy Ancient City

A visit to the ancient ruins of Kayaköy can be a half-day trip as it is just nine kilometers west from Ölüdeniz Beach. The hillside above Kayaköy is dotted with the stone buildings and church ruins of Levissi, once a thriving Ottoman Greek settlement and now a ghost town.

Most of the Ottoman Greek villages in Turkey were moved to Greece through the Greek-Turkish population exchange. This town, which was moved to Greece, was abandoned and fell into ruin. There are two churches among the ruins, which are better preserved than the house ruins, and they are located in the center of the complex. The smaller Kataponagia Church and the larger Taxiarkis Church are located near the top of the mountain.

#2: Tlos oren Yeri

The ruins of Tlos, formerly an important Lycian city, are located on a hill 52 kilometers east of Ölüdeniz.

Settlement continued here continuously under Greek, Roman, Byzantine and finally Ottoman administrations. The ancient city of Tlos, unlike many other ancient city areas, was continuously inhabited until the last period of the Ottoman Empire and was completely abandoned only in the nineteenth century.

The most remarkable ruins belong to the Acropolis area. When you look at the Acropolis, you will see a small Ottoman castle on top and some Lycian rock tombs. The Roman Theater and the adjacent Roman Baths, with their reliefs that are still in very good condition, are also worth seeing.

#3: Letoon Sanctuary

Letoon Sanctuary, known to be the religious center of Lycia, attracts all history-loving tourists with its temples of Leto, Apollo and Artemis. This ancient city, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage list, is on the Lycian walking route and is one of the stopping points of daily tours from Fethiye. It is believed that the city was built by the Greek God Leto, who was pregnant by Zeus.

Letoon is located between the Fethiye-Kaş highway and tourist visits from both directions are organized every day.

#4: Saklıkent Canyon

During the summer months, Saklıkent (53 kilometers southeast of Ölüdeniz) is one of the most popular day trips from Ölüdeniz.

Most Fethiye-based tour companies offer a day trip here, and many of these trips add an additional stop to show the Tlos ruins along the route.

You can protect yourself from the summer heat and cool off thanks to the high canyon walls, which can reach up to 200 meters high.
